Gary Hubbard – Past ND Chapter President

Gary Hubbard passed away on September 2, 2022, in Grand Forks, ND at the age of 85.

Gary was born on November 1, 1936, to Fay and Ida Hubbard. He moved to Jamestown, ND as a small child. He graduated from St. John’s Academy in 1954. He married Donna Larson in 1975.

He began working at Northwestern Bell Telephone company in 1957. He held various positions over his career and lived in many ND towns. He began as a lineman, an installer, manager, engineer, supervised many installation and construction crews over his career. He retired in 1995 after almost 38 years of service. He was very active in all the communities he lived in. He was on the City Planning and Zoning committee in Williston, president of the Harvey Chamber of Commerce, volunteer fireman, Lion’s Club, President of the ND Chapter of Telephone Pioneers for many years, and Life Member president of Lake Agassiz Telephone Pioneers.

He served in the US Army and was called up during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was one of the “Kennedy Boys”. He is survived by his wife Donna Hubbard, Grand Forks, ND, Sons Jim (Shelley) Hubbard, Fergus Falls, MN, Jay (Nora) Hubbard, Grand Forks, ND, daughter Susan (Dave) Krueger, Bemidji, MN, step-son, Chris (Viviana) Larson, Sidney, MT, brothers, Daryl (Jan) Hubbard, Glendale, AZ, Rodney (Nancy) Hubbard, Fargo, ND, Clair (Gayle) Hubbard, Rochester, MN, Duane (Joan) Hubbard, Peoria, AZ, sisters, Sharyln (Terry) Geerdes, Jamestown, ND, and Sandy (Clayton) Brost, Neenah, WI, several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Fay and Ida Hubbard, two daughters Barb Hubbard, Nancy Gulsvig, stepson Kelly Larson, nephews Scott and Mike Hubbard.

A Memorial Service will take place at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church 715 24th Ave S. in Grand Forks on Tuesday, September 13 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service in the church.
