Who are the Legacy West Pioneers?

Our History

Legacy West Pioneers are part of the International Pioneers organization which is the largest industry related volunteer organization in the world. We were employees and retirees in the telecommunications industry. Our origins date back to 1911 and the historic Bell Telephone System and Western Electric. Legacy West Pioneers dedicate thei

Legacy West Pioneers are part of the International Pioneers organization which is the largest industry related volunteer organization in the world. We were employees and retirees in the telecommunications industry. Our origins date back to 1911 and the historic Bell Telephone System and Western Electric. Legacy West Pioneers dedicate their time and talents to worthwhile community service projects throughout our territory.

Our territory covers 22 states west of the Mississippi River. Originally each state had a chapter, but in recent years some have merged. The following is a list of how those mergers have evolved. 

 

  • Arizona is made up of Arizona and New Mexico
  • Colorado is made up of Colorado and Nebraska
  • Minnesota is made up of Mi

Our Projects

Our Projects

 The Pioneers work on projects that directly support the communities where they live and work. Pioneer projects range from education to health care, from assisting the disabled to helping homeless and veterans. The projects are designed to meet the needs of the community and the interest of the Pioneers and their families. The Legacy West

 The Pioneers work on projects that directly support the communities where they live and work. Pioneer projects range from education to health care, from assisting the disabled to helping homeless and veterans. The projects are designed to meet the needs of the community and the interest of the Pioneers and their families. The Legacy West Pioneers contribute over a million hours of service each year, leaving the legacy of service in their wake. 


Below are some examples of the exemplary contributions made by many of our clubs.


  • Ronald McDonald House – collect soda tabs to donate and host dinners for families staying there.
  • Hug a bears – Pioneers make them and donate them to police, fire and ambulance companies.
  • Mentoring at elementary schools
  • Pioneers make lap robes and donate them to senior centers as well as donate miscellaneous other items.
  • Contribute time and food to the local Food Bank.
  • Provide scholarships to high school seniors or current college students.
  • Donate school supplies to underserved schools
  • Donate socks and underwear to schools.
  • Support Blind schools with a Beeping Easter Egg Hunt event
  • Build and sell/distribute beeping baseballs
  • Pioneers support the Talking Book Program for the visually impaired. This program has been supported by the Pioneers for over 50 years of maintaining the equipment, reading to record books, and doing outreach into the community.
  • Volunteer and staff a booth to showcase Pioneer activities and raise funds.
  • Handi-dogs- provided materials support and have donated equipment
  • Christmas stockings for Mobile Meals/Meals-On-Wheels -filling stockings to be given out to clients who are homebound.
  • We provide volunteer assistance for group homes, veterans homes and senior centers.
  • Readers for Life provides children with their own first book.
  • Support local beeping baseball team so they can attend the national tournaments.
  • Collect bikes, helmets and locks at Christmas for Salvation Army.
  • Organize Craft Fairs, garage sales or bake sales as a fundraisers.
  • Support domestic violence shelters with donated goods.
